Dad, Thinking of You

Hola! We arrived in Albuquerque, New Mexico yesterday. My parents picked us up at the airport. We spent the night at my sister and brother-in-law's house. While it's great to be back in my home state, our trip to New Mexico is bittersweet. On one hand, we'll be celebrating Kalino's birthday in Taos with all his cousins on Sunday. I'll get see all, but one of my siblings, but I'll also see my cousin and uncle that are feeling the huge loss of losing my Aunt Christine in early June.

I'm also sad and nervous that today my dad has to start radiation treatments in Albuquerque. He'll have to live there Monday - Friday (120 miles away from home) for over 8 weeks. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer almost 7 years ago and had surgery. The radiation is a precautionary step since his PSA numbers have recently started climbing.

I made this card for him. I used the 100th sketch from Clean and Simple. The sentiment is from the Men of Life set by Papertrey Ink. I don't know who made this lovely paper, but it's been on my shelf for over a year.

Have a lovely day!

Thinking of You

Hola chicas! I made this card for Embellish Magazine's Embellish the Cure Color Challenge With Bling. The colors for the challenge were Fushia, Light Pink, and Gray.
(Oct 30- Edited to Add: Re-photographed the card with natural light.)

I want to make similar "Thinking of You" cards for my Aunt Christine & Aunt Pauline. They have both dealt with breast cancer. My Aunt Pauline is an 8 year survivor and my Aunt Christine is fighting hard against a very rare Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Thanks Ashley, for creating this challenge in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I used by QuicKutz Silhouette to cut out the focal point of the card.

Card Ingredients
Stamps: Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Basic Gray, Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink (all SU!)
Ink: Basic Black
Tools: QuicKutz Silhouette, Embossed Curve punch (EK Success)
Other: pink rhinestones (A Stamp in the Hand), gray ribbon (SU!)

New Mexico Meets Morocco

Hi everyone! This week has flown by faster than most. It's already Friday...again.

I've had a fun few days though. Tina (Travelingmama) selected my picture of Taos Pueblo for her Traveler's Inspiration Challenge:{two}. She asked me to create a project based on my photo. Thanks, Tina! This was fun.

I call this card "New Mexico Meets Morocco" since I used BasicGrey's Marrakech paper for the skyline and Tina lives in Morocco. Beside the kraft paper, I used items I've never used or haven't used in years (thanks for the push, Kristina!). I've had the Pueblo-style house stamp for years. I bought it in Santa Fe. I think I've only used it once to make house-warming invitations for my cousin. I made this card for my Aunt Ruby who lives in Taos. She has Parkinson's disease and is not very mobile anymore. She loves receiving my cards. While she doesn't have a Pueblo-style home, she does have a ladder next to her house like the one in the image I used.

Here's a photo collage from that January day in 2006. (I need to scrap these photos.) Elmo was on vacation with us. He went everyone, like a Flat Stanley.

I LOVE this place! It's normally buzzing with tourists (I like being a tourist in my own hometown), but we got it to ourselves that day. It's doesn't look it, but it was so cold that day. We wanted to buy some of their famous fry bread, but even Cruzcita was not there frying her famous bread. Kalino was almost 2.5 yrs old. For some reason, he didn't want to leave. In the last panel of the collage you can see him crying. His first language was Spanish, so he was crying "mas pueblo, mas pueblo" (more pueblo, more pueblo). He was mad we had to leave. Poor little guy. If you are ever in New Mexico, visit Taos. You will love it!

Paper: Kraft (SU!), Marrakech paper (BasicGrey)

Thinking of You

We just got back last night from vacation in New Mexico. Perfect timing for Kristina's Color Inspiration Challenge #18. My best stamping buddy, Ericka, was here today for a girlies day of shopping and stamping. She's visiting from Seattle. Very nice day.

This week's color challenge had the following colors:

Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, and I choose Green Galore instead of Summer Sun.
There was no stamping involved on this card. I had this Prima felt strip for a while and I hadn't used it. I thought it was perfect for this challenge. I haven't used my paper crimper in ages, so I used it on the Rose Red paper. I tried to use more Pumpkin Pie on this card, but it looked very Halloween-esque and I didn't like it. Oops, Kristina's deadline is fast approaching...I better post this quick.
Thanks for looking!
Card Ingredients
Paper: white textured paper from Peru, white glossy Kromekote that I brayered with Green Galore and Rose Red ink pads
