Earth Day Notebooks

Hello, my dears!

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while. We were on Spring Break last week. We took a trip down to Southern California. We spent days in Legoland, Disneyland, and California Adventure. It was Kalino's first time in Disneyland. This kid is not a Disney kid. He's never wanted to go to Disneyland until now. He loved Tomorrowland.

Here are some notebooks I made for my sister-in-law's students to celebrate Earth Day. The notebooks started with recycled cardboard from boxes of crackers, cereal, packaging, etc.

I covered the cardboard pieces with various papers. I used a lot of Hambly overlays and Hambly papers. I also used a lot of other papers from various companies, like Stampin' Up. Each notebook is approximately 4.25" x 5.5". Some notebooks were a little smaller. I used various types of binding. Mainly I used "cola de rata" (rats tail...I know...weird name). I also used bamboo skewers for binding on some of the notebooks. The stamp I used was perfect. My sister-in-law provided the stamp. I can't remember the manufacturer. It shows the Earth surrounded by children; perfect for Earth Day!

Well, I've got to get to bed soon. We have an early morning. We are doing a Community Cleanup event at Kalino's school tomorrow. We are also showing all the great art the kid's created this week during our craft camps. They up-cycled trash into great works of art. The kids love the event that all of us mom's organized. Thanks to our leader, Nadja! I heard comments like "this is better than recess". That's a huge stamp of approval. They had so much fun. Yesterday, I helped the 3rd graders glue their robot creations together. Kids love building robots; not just my robot-obsessed son.

A Hambly Make-n-Take .....From Last Year!

This summer I found the make-n-take I made at Hambly Studios last December! I wondered where it was. The card and envelope were in the glove compartment of one of our cars. The card is a postcard-style card made from an awesome overlay. The sentiment is a rub-on.

Part of the make-n-take was to also create an envelope liner with their awesome paper.

Some Hambly End-of-Year Blog Candy

When I went to Hambly Studios in early December, Allison had a cute tree decorated with all Hambly embellished decorations. All the presents were wrapped in Hambly papers and she had the greatest gift tags. She used her rub-ons on acetate tags. I loved the look so much, that I had to create my own. I bought some Clearly Heavy Overlays and got to work. I didn't read instructions and thought I could use Nestabilities to cut out some shapes, but the Clearly Heavy Overlays are too thick for them when using a Big Shot. You have to use a heavy die. In this case, I traced a design I liked from my Silhouette and cut the tags out with sharp scissors. The Crop-a-Dile is perfect for punching holes in this material.

Sending Holiday Cheer

I love Hambly Screen Prints! I got to visit their studio a few weeks ago for a make-n-take. That reminds me, I didn't post a picture of the items I got to make.

Allison and her staff are so sweet. I used a Hambly overlay on this card. The paper and ribbon is all Stampin' Up and the sentiment is from Papertrey Ink (Holiday Button Bits).

Hambly Studios Meets SU In Colors

Today was one of my best friend's birthday. Cris is celebrating a major milestone birthday. This card is for her. She hasn't had a party since before September 11th, 2001. Her party was cancelled on that terrible day.

I started working on the design yesterday, so it was a cool surprise to see the Clean & Simple Fall-to-Layout #59 today; it matched my layout! That's never happened to me. I love the layouts on Clean & Simple, but I usually don't have time to participate.


I've been wanting to use some Hambly Studios goodies I picked up at their studio in early August. The clear butterfly sticker is from their collection. It matches very well to the new Stampin' Up In Colors. They opened their studio to the public during the Santa Clara Scrapbooking Expo. I loved visiting them! They were all so warm and friendly. To show you the power of Twitter, I posted a tweet that I was on my way to their studio. When I walked in, Allison Kreft Abad knew I had to be the woman who tweeted about being on her way. The office staff also knew. It was so fun seeing all their CHA release stuff. The office staff said I can order from their website and not pay shipping because I can just drive to their studio and pick it up. Lucky!

I placed the clear sticker on white paper and trimmed it out. You can see the detail in the photo, but I paper-pierced around the edge of the butterfly. For some added interest, I rubbed white craft ink on the edge of the Crushed Curry cardstock and embossed it with white embossing powder.

Cool Stuff From Maker Faire

I spent all day yesterday with my Sweeties at Maker Faire in San Mateo. Two words....loved it!!!! It truly had major fun stuff for all 3 of us: robots, arts, crafts, science experiments, lightning indoors produced by Tesla coils. This event was huge. Adam Savage from MythBusters gave a talk. Ryan from Top Chef also gave a presentation. The Diet Coke & Mentos guys were there with this same YouTube presentation.

I did 3 make-n-takes:

• Season Leaves necklace at the Ponoko booth
• Played with Sticklers and used Glaze and Souffle pens at the Sakura booth. I got a gift of Sumo Sticklers and 3 pens. I had never used them before. They dry on glass, ceramic, electronics, etc.
• Made this notepad at the Hambly Screen Prints booth. I spent some money here. I loved the paper, acetate overlays, and rub-ons from this company. I can't believe they are located only a few miles from my house.
  

We are definitely going to make this an annual event for our family. Maker Faire is held in Austin, TX in the Fall (October 18-19) for those of you who live in that area (yes, you, Raul, Judy, and Lauren)!
